Botanical name: Astrophytum myriostigma
Family: Cactaceae
Plant type: Evergreen perennial.
Size (HxW): 20-25cm x 20-30cm
Depth and spacing: Plant on top of the soil surface, with the roots spread evenly below soil surface. Gloves are recommended when handling these plants.
Watering: Only minimal watering may be required if they appear limp, otherwise they are drought tolerant.
Frost tolerance: Protect from frosts. Keep pots in a sheltered position during frost periods.
Flowering time: Summer
Planting time: Anytime
Soil: Not fussy, but slightly alkaline is best suited.
Climate: Cool to Sub-Tropical.
Aspect: Full sun to semi shade.
Fertilizer: Apply a low nitrogen liquid fertilizer monthly from mid spring till late summer.
After flowering care: Can be divided after new offshoots have matured.
Comments: Plant with other cactus in a dry landscape or place in pots for a dramatic and interesting display.
