Botanical name: Convolvulus mauritanicus (Syn: C.sabatius) 'White Gladys' Family: Convulvulaceae Plant type: Evergreen ground cover. Plant size: Stems trailing to 1m wide. Up to 15cm tall. Depth & spacing: Plant with the crown at the soil surface & 1m or more apart. Watering: Drought tolerant once established but grows & flowers more freely with adequate moisture. Frost tolerances: Hardy. Flowering time: Summer. Preferred soil: Must be well drained. Preferred aspect: Full sun. Ideal climates: Cool to temperate . Pruning: None required except to shape. Fertilising: Feed annually in early Spring with a general purpose fertiliser. Uses & comments: This is an easy to grow & versatile plant which is reliable, hardy & requires little maintenance.
This variety was discovered by a home gardener who named it after her late mother who had suffered from Motor Neurone Disease. Part of the plant royalties go towards the MND Ass NSW.
