Planting time: Crowns should be planted in Winter.
Dwarf: 1m tall
Depth and Spacing:The crowns should be planted just below soil level with both Pacific Giants & Dwarf varieties 20-30cm apart.
Aspect:Full sun. Part shade in warmer climates. Protect from strong winds.
Soil: Preferably rich. Ideally the soil should be enriched each Winter (see below).
Fertilising: After the crowns shoot to 15-25cm, top dress with a complete fertiliser.
Staking: If you are going to stake Delphiniums, the stakes should be firmly secured into the soil at planting time.
Watering:For best results, keep the crowns moist whilst actively growing.
Flowering time:Summer to Autumn
Pruning required:Cut the blooms as soon as they are finished & be rewarded with a second (& sometimes third) flush of flowers. Cut back hard in late Autumn.
Warning: Snails & slugs love the new shoots so protect thoroughly against them to avoid losing your Delphiniums.
