Botanical name: Salvia nemerosa 'Tanzerin' Family: Lamiaceae. Plant type: Semi-evergreen perennial. Plant size: 50cm tall x 40cm wide Depth and spacing: Plant with the crown level with the top of the soil (or to the same depth as in the pot) & 40cm apart. Watering: These plants are somewhat drought tolerant but perform much better with regular watering. Frost tolerance: Fully hardy. Flowering time: Summer to Autumn (with well timed pruning the flowering period of this plant can be greatly extended - see next point). Pruning: Trim off old flowers as they fade and you'll be rewarded with another flush or two within the same season. Cut back harder (to about 1/3) each Winter to help the plant keep its nice compact shape. Soil: Not fussy but it must be well drained. Preferred aspect: Full sun to part shade. Ideal climates: Subtropical to cool. Fertilising: Give a light feed only.
