Soft pink feathers bloom in abundance over glossy, green-bronze leaves.
Astilbe ‘Inshriach’ is a wonderful dwarf Astilbe ideal for late summer colour. You can even leave the flower heads remain into autumn and winter as they turn to shades of gold.
The flower stems are 25-40cm so tower over the leaves which grow to around 20cm.
Astilbe grow to form nice clumps of handsome, fern like, dark green foliage that turns bronze in autumn. They look wonderful as part of a woodland garden or shady border.
The flowers of Astilbe can be picked for vases where they will last well. Once the flowers have turned bronze, you can either remove them or leave them on as the seed heads have nice autumn/winter ornamental value.
Astilbe grows best in part shade to morning sun positions, or filtered light – think Hostas and ferns. The warmer your climate, the more shade they will take. They will grow in full shade but not flower their best. In sunny positions you will need to ensure they have adequate moisture or they tend to become straggly.
Plant Astilbe into a humus rich, moist soil, an acid PH is preferred but not demanded. Water in your Astilbe and keep moist in active growth. Add a little mulch in summer to help retain moisture around the roots.
