A ‘must have’ evergreen perennial with handsome foliage and flowers. The bright, to emerald green leaves have a saw tooth edge and form upright rosettes that resemble their namesake, Agave. This shiny, spiny clump grows 40-50cm tall and adds magnificent texture to the garden. Many of the popular garden designers are including it as a signature plant.

From late summer on, the leaves are topped with strong stems of branched flower heads. The spiky, oval flowers are soft green with a silver glow. These impressive stems can stretch up to 150cm and are great for picking. Of course, you can leave them on the plant and they will remain decorative, even through winter.

The spiky foliage of Eryngium is excellent for adding texture to the garden, and they are a perfect complement to a cottage border. As the plants establish you will get more and more flowers.

Plant Agave-Leafed Sea Holly in a sunny spot. Sea Holly grows best in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil, though they are very adaptable, being endemic to poor, dry and rocky soils. Good drainage is the most important element. They will thrive in hot, dry sites. Water to establish, then only if rainfall is low. They are dry tolerant once established. They are frost hardy to -15C.
