Species Crocus Tricolour
Wow flowers.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.
These blooms are absolutely beautiful. They are shaded lilac purple at the tips, blending to a white eye and golden throat.
Each corm produces 1-3 flowers in a season. The blooms open from late winter, signalling the coming of spring. Crocus 'Tricolour' has been awarded the illustrious Royal Horticultural Societies Award of Garden Merit for plants of outstanding excellence.
Unlike most spring flowering bulbs, Crocus ‘Tricolour’ will cope with a little moisture over summer dormancy, as long as it is planted in a well drained soil.
Species Crocus grow best in Cool to Mediterranean climates where they get cold winters. They look fantastic in rockeries, beds and pots. Plant in a sunny spot with drained soil.
Species Crocus will tolerate light shade, such as under deciduous trees, especially in more temperate zones, but need the sun in winter, so the flowers open.
Species Crocus bulbs don’t need to be lifted every year, so you can allow them to naturalise and dig and divide after four or five years if flowering wanes. Leaving them in the ground will also mean you will be greeted with blooms a little earlier in the season.
It is a good idea to protect the new growth from slugs and snails, so if the critters are a problem in your garden take measures in late winter.
Fertilise Species Crocus annually in early spring as they bloom. They are suitable for planting in pots.
