This dwarf Tulip has brilliant, vermilion red, glossy flowers that stretch up to 10cm across. The colouration is dazzling in full sun, when the flowers open widely, showing off their jet-black heart.

A common name for Tulipa linifolia is the Flax Leaved Tulip for its narrow, green to grey, upright leaves. It holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit so you know it is hardy and reliable. It was discovered in the 1880’s.

Species Tulips have a more relaxed or whimsical feel than the common hybridized varieties. And are ideal for rock gardens, lawn plantings, pots or towards the front of a border.

If planted in a well drained soil, in a spot that does not get too hot or wet over summer then the bulbs can be left in the ground for many years where they will gradually multiply. Hailing from countries like Uzbekistan, Turkestan and Iran, they love cold winters and hot, dry summers and don’t mind poor soils.
