A must for collectors, ok a must for anyone who likes good plants! Collected by the fabulous Dan Hinkley in the 1990’s from the Sichuan province in China, this plant has all the good things about Bamboo and more. Disporum ‘Green Giant’ is evergreen and statuesque. If well cared for it will grow into a column of lush green leaves up to 2.5m and be covered in white bells.

The lush, green, tropical style, bamboo like foliage is fabulous in a shaded spot. What’s more it is adorned flowers in clusters at the end of the branches in spring. They are a soft green to cream with a nice fragrance. They are followed by glossy purple black fruit (inedible).

Endemic to woodland areas of China it thrives in semi shade in moist, humus rich soils. It will gradually colonise through underground rhizomes to form a small clump. Water to establish and keep moist in active growth.

It is evergreen in all but the cold climes, but we recommend you treat it like a herbaceous perennial and cut it back late in winter so the new spring growth can shine. This comes through with glorious shades of purple, ebony and deep green and it will back to its full height in no time. This is a long lived plant that will bring you years of joy.
