Striking silver bracts surround the violet blue flowers on violet blue stems of Sea Holly 'Violetta'. The flowers open freely and last for a long time.
The spiky flowers and foliage of Sea Holly 'Violetta' provide excellent textural contrast in the garden.
Sea Holly 'Violetta' has heart shaped spiny leaves toward the base of the stem, as you move up the leaves are more divided. The dark blue-green leaves have a slight hint of silver which compliments the flowers perfectly. As the plants establish you will get more and more flowers.
Sea Holly is not actually a Holly at all, it is a member of the Parsley family.
Plant Sea Holly 'Violetta' in a sunny spot to get the best colouring. Sea Holly 'Violetta' grows best in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. They are very tolerant of poor soils as they are endemic to dry, rocky soils. Good drainage is the most important element and they will thrive in hot, dry sites.
The flowers of Sea Holly 'Violetta' are good both cut and dried in floral arrangements.
