Ravishing red, tropical blooms.

Finally, a hardy Hippeastrum!

Sonatini Hippeastrums were developed in South Africa to cope with all terrains, from snow on the ground to the heat of the tropics. This means you can now grow Hippeastrums in the ground, even in cool climates without having to lift them each year. They are like the good old Nerines or Daffodils, plant them once and they will be around for many years.

Sonatini Hippeastrums have 2-3 stems per bulb. The flowers average 10cm across with 4-5 on a stem.

HIPPEASTRUM CULTURAL NOTES (Amaryllis)

SITUATION:
Hippeastrum like to be in full sun to semi shade. They will tolerate all well drained soil conditions. Sonatini can be planted in the ground or in pots. Use a well balanced, good quality potting mix.

TIME OF PLANTING:
Plant winter to spring. Plant at the soil surface, with the neck of the bulb slightly above the soil. Space bulbs 15cm apart. Keep moist during active growth and relatively dry during dormancy. Sonatini Hippeastrums grow 30-45cm tall and 15cm across.

GENERAL CARE:
The bulbs are medium to heavy feeders, so, for best results apply a complete fertiliser each spring and a liquid fertiliser during flowering. In pots leave them to become overcrowded before re-potting. Pots can be bought indoors for display during flowering.
