Each showy flower has exquisite green marks (top and bottom). The inner petals have a cheeky flare at the end. Elwes’s Snowdrop is a vigorous choice that has a good reputation for multiplication.

Snowdrops or Galanthus are much loved bulbs of exquisite beauty. These flowers are quite large by comparison to most Snowdrops, growing to around 2.5cm.

Galanthus elwesii is commonly known as Elwes’s Snowdrop or Giant Snowdrop. It was named in honour of Henry John Elwes (1846-1922) an English botanist who is rumoured to have bought the variety into cultivation.

Some gardeners are so crazy about these Snowdrops they are labelled 'Galanthophiles' and who could blame them, they are very special little blooms. Late winter to early spring you will fall in love with the superb flowers in pots, rockeries, garden beds or beneath trees. The gently arching leaves are a muted green and grow 8-20cm long, the edges slightly curved.

Grow your Snowdrops in a cool spot in well drained soil. They grow well in conditions similar to those favoured by Hellebores or Hostas. A humus rich, moist, well drained soil is ideal.
