Lovely big lace caps flowers with dainty pink buds and handsome white blooms through spring and summer.

The green foliage of Viburnum ‘Onondarga’ has a handsome, bronze-purple flush, most noticeable on the new spring leaves. Each maple shaped leaf grows to around 12cm long. In autumn, the leaves turn purple-red before falling, revealing a nice, upright branch structure.

Viburnum ‘Onondarga’ holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, so you know it is easy care and a good performer.

Viburnums offer year round interest with a different show for every season; spring and summer flowers and or berries, autumn foliage and winter branch structure. Adding shrubs such as these to your garden provides good structure to your landscape.

The blooms are a combination of large infertile flowers and small, fertile flowers in the middle. If the blooms are fertilized they will mature to nice, ornamental, rose red fruits that age to black (inedible – to us but the birds love them).

Viburnums are vigorous shrubs that becomes dry tolerant once they establish, and they make great specimen plants.

Viburnums will grow in average to humus rich, well drained soils. Suitable for a part shade to full sun position. Prune as required after the flowers gave finished.

Viburnums are often unsung heroes of the garden, but once you see them in action, you are sure to be convinced!
