Sporobolus Alkali Sacaton
Perennial elegance.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.
A handsome bunch grass that forms tidy mounds of narrow, mid green, arching foliage that is topped with tall, feathery plumes from spring to autumn. These spikelets grow to 40cm and turn from pink to gold as they mature, creating a cloud of colour above the leaves.
A wonderful ornamental grass that will cope with pretty much anything you can throw at it – it is endemic to the Mojave Desert which I think is a good indication of its endurance. The elegant foliage grows 30-50cm tall, when joined by the flowers, the plant reaches up to a metre.
Plant into moderately fertile to humus rich soil in a sunny spot it will even grow in saline and alkaline soils. It copes well in a whole range of climatic conditions from droughts to flooding rains. Water in then dry tolerant once established.
