Loose racemes of deep lilac flowers open in spring over luxuriant, dark foliage.
The new leaves are gorgeous, deep purple, maturing to soft green over the season, and after the flowers have done their thing.
A cross of Epimediium diphyllum and E. grandiflorum. When the flowers have finished the foliage grows taller, to around 30cm.
Epimediums are surprisingly easy to grow and will thrive in your hard to fill shady spots and work well in combination with Winter Roses. They are a rare find in Australian gardens, and we think that is a bit of a shame because they are so easy and so pretty, you should grab them while you can.
If you take the time to cut Epimediums back in late winter, the new growth will shine through in spring. This is where the foliage comes to the fore, with its fabulous marbling and streaking.
