Upright stems of hooded, lavender pink flowers open of a lush carpet of foliage. The flowers open in whorls, progressively up the stem. The blooms open for a long season, from late spring to autumn. The stems can even be left standing over winter.
With blooms opening all along the stems, a massed effect of colour is created which makes Phlomis is perfect for beds and borders. They are at home in dry gardens and stunning in cottage gardens. The grey green leaves vary between 6cm and 20cm, they are heart shaped with a rough texture.
Plant Phlomis in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Water in well, they then become dry tolerant once established.
Native to the rocky hillsides of the Himalayas and Kashmir.
