Little Bluestem 'Prairie Blues'
Narrow upright form.
In stock

This ethereal blue grass turns pretty orange-red shades in autumn. Little silver fluffy seed heads open above the leaves from summer to autumn and the birds love them. A garden worthy dry tolerant, low maintenance plant.
Little Blue Stem ‘Prairie Blues’ is easy care and offers almost year round rewards that change with the seasons. Trouble free of pests and diseases it quickly establishes to form a healthy clump. The upright foliage is ornamental across a range of garden designs.
This plant mingles beautifully with perennials and will work in a cottage or xeriscape setting and anything in between. Massed plantings will create quite a stir.
Grow in full sun to semi shade in any well drained soil. Tolerant of poor or sandy soils. Don’t expect too much until the soil warms, then you will see rapid growth.
If the soil isn’t too wet over winter the stems will remain upright and ornamental throughout.
Plant soon after arrival to take advantage of warm soils, or wait until spring – the roots will grow only in warm soils so if you plant at a cool time of year the plant is unlikely to thrive.
Schizachyrium scoparium is commonly known as Little Bluestem or Broomsedge or Beard Grass. Syn. Andropogon scoparium.
