If you are like me, there is a Salvia in virtually every corner of the garden, except a hanging basket, until now! While many Salvia are valued for their strong, upright habit, this new varieties strength lies in its trailing habit. The vibrant blue flowers open from black calyces amid bright green foliage.
Salvia Bodacious ‘Honeyeater Falls’ is a great choice as a spiller in containers or hanging baskets, as an edging, rockery or retaining wall plant. It is unique in the world of Salvia with a mushroom like habit. Heat and humidity are no problem for this easy grower.
These rugged plants require little and do so much. Similar breeding to the legendary ‘Black and Bloom’ and ‘Purple and Bloom’, in blooms and vigour, but with a more relaxed and compact habit. The flowers grow around 10 along the frequent stems.
Salvia ‘Honeyeater Falls’ is sold as ‘Hummingbird Falls’ where it was bred in North America. It was aptly named because nectar feeding birds love these flowers, having them up in a basket you may be able to better observe the birds in action. Who needs an expensive bird feeder when you can have a fabulous plant do it for you.

Plant into moderately fertile, to humus rich, well drained soil. Choose a sunny position and water to establish, they become dry tolerant once they have settled in. In pots or hanging baskets, the 20-25cm pot size is perfect. Combining them as a thriller, filler, spiller combination you can go as big as you like!

The aromatic foliage and abundant flowers attract bees, butterflies and birds. Especially the birds! Sometimes I have found they love the flowers a little too much and the larger birds can bend the branches. But it is wonderful to have the birds and there are enough stems produced by this vigorous Salvia that it still looks good.
