This plant is absolutely breathtaking in swathes. It is quick to establish, toughs out trying conditions and loves the sun.
The flowers are held high, above the foliage and create fabulous movement in the garden, glowing in the sun’s rays. The flowers not only look fabulous, they attract beneficial insect to the garden, adding even more movement and life to your beds.
If you cut Salvia ‘Amethyst’ back hard around January, then water and fertilise, you will get strong regrowth and even more flowers into autumn. That is amazing value. It is no wonder it holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for excellence.
The leaves of Salvia ‘Amethyst’ are mid green, oval and grow to around 10cm.
Plant into moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Sandy and gravelly soils are very suitable. Salvia ‘Amethyst’ is dry tolerant once established. A sunny position is perfect for this plant.
