Little Bluestem 'Blaze'
A blaze of autumn colour.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.
A lovely, bushy grass with strong, upright, blue-green stems. In autumn the flat stems turn rich, russet red, aging to pink. The stems create gorgeous movement as they sway in the slightest breeze. The small silver flower spikelets open summer to autumn.
This plant mingles beautifully with perennials and will work in a cottage or xeriscape setting and anything in between. Massed plantings will create quite a stir.
If the soil isn’t too wet over winter the stems will remain upright and ornamental throughout.
Little Bluestem ‘Blaze’ is easy care and offers almost year round rewards that change with the seasons. Trouble free of pests and diseases it quickly establishes to form a healthy clump. Grow in full sun to semi shade in any well drained soil. Tolerant of poor or sandy soils.
Plant soon after arrival to take advantage of warm soils, or wait until spring – the roots will grow only in warm soils so if you plant at a cool time of year the plant is unlikely to thrive.
Schizachyrium scoparium is commonly known as Little Bluestem or Broomsedge.
