Appealingly low maintenance with abundant, red flower spikes for months on end. It has a nice rounded habit and is water wise.
‘Heatwave’ Salvias were bred for the dry climates of Australia. They are water wise, love the sun and don’t mind poor soils. Their improved breeding offers compact and well branched plants with tighter foliage so will look good for longer. They were bred from S. greggii and S. microphylla crosses.
Amazing in landscape plantings, containers, en masse or as an informal hedge. Good companion plants include Hemerocallis, grasses, Gaura and Agastache.
Salvia ‘Heatwave Blaze’ is a great choice for gardens or containers. These rugged plants require little and do so much. Plant into moderately fertile, to humus rich, well drained soil. Choose a sunny position and water to establish (this takes at least four weeks of regular watering), they become dry tolerant once they have settled in. To keep them blooming into autumn, give them a light mid summer trim to around half, this will also encourage a handsome habit.
The aromatic foliage and abundant flowers attract bees, butterflies and birds.
