The gorgeous, golden to chartreuse, heart shaped foliage is lush and eye-catching. The leaves grow up to 25cm long, gradually elongating with maturity. It is a set and forget plant that will reward you for many years to come.
Summer to autumn, spires of raspberry pink blooms open freely over the foliage and last well.
Persicaria ‘Golden Arrow’ looks fabulous as a ground cover, in rock gardens, along the garden edges or in containers.
An excellent plant choice for contrast that can take full sun in Cool to Temperate climates to part shade in Mediterranean ones – you want at least six hours but they are best protected from the afternoon sun, unless you are prepared to water. It even grows well in containers.
Plant in moderately fertile to humus rich soil. Suitable for boggy soils. Water to establish, it takes plants 4-6 weeks of regular watering for their roots to penetrate and gain access to the surrounding soil, then only if rainfall is low. They are dry tolerant once settled in. It will spread gradually, not at any great pace, through underground rhizomes. Persicaria ‘Golden Arrow’ goes dormant with the frosts and rises again in spring.
Persicaria is commonly known as Mountain Fleece and Firetail.
