Soft yellow, pointed petals with a soft blush of red on the reverse. It is lovely and curvaceous when closed and a sight to behold when it unfurls.

Tulipa clusiana ‘Honky Tonk’ holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, is simple to grow and care for and can perennialise in a well drained soil that isn’t too soggy in summer.

Tulipa ‘Honky Tonk’ was introduced in 1998 and grows to around 20cm.

This tulip is listed in various places as part of the T. linifolia Batalanii Group and as T. clusiana, we favour the latter for its proportions and shape.

Species Tulips have a more relaxed or whimsical feel than the common hybridized varieties. And are ideal for rock gardens, lawn plantings, pots or towards the front of a border.

If planted in a well drained soil, in a spot that does not get too hot or wet over summer then the bulbs can be left in the ground for many years where they will gradually multiply. Hailing from Uzbekistan they love cold winters and hot, dry summers and don’t mind poor soils.
