Plant a triumphant spring finale with these unusual bloomers. The tall, straight stems bear bright white flowers that encompass a shining black pearl at their heart. They have a soft, sweet fragrance.
This Ornithogalum blooms in late spring (for us the end of November) and produces fantastic, long lasting cut flowers with up to 15 flowers per stem. The blue green leaves are strap like and semi erect.
Ornithogalum bulbs are easily grown in a sunny, well drained location and can be left undisturbed for many years. They are best planted grouped closely together and favour a warm, dry summer for their dormancy. Suitable for pots. Poor soils aren’t a problem and they appreciate good drainage and will gradually multiply into clumps.
Ornithogalum arabicum are commonly known as Arabian Star Flower or Arab`s Eyes because of the prominent black ‘eye’ in the centre of the bloom and its origin.
