A tough little Salvia with gorgeous, upright stems of snow touched, mauve purple flowers on upright stems. Each is 3.5cm long. The white markings are to draw the attention of passing bees. Salvia hians has a soft, pleasing fragrance.
Lovely and compact for the front of a border or rockery. They can even be grown in containers.
The leaves form a low growing, basal, mound. They are 10-15cm long, olive green and roughly textured.
Grow in a sunny location in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. These Salvias are dry tolerant once established and look wonderful in beds, borders or dry gardens. They have a vigorous growth and are easy care, with solid heat and frost tolerance. It hails from the alpine mountains of the Himalayas. Dormant through winter.
Dead head spent flowers on Salvias, after the first flush to encourage re-bloom in autumn.
