The cup shaped flowers are a beautiful, lilac pink with a golden heart. Great for pots or naturalising in the garden, there are up to three blooms from established bulbs.
The foliage of Tulip ‘Lilac Wonder’ is narrow and lies about on the ground, leaving the flowers beauty exposed. Originating in Greece and Turkey it likes sharply drained soil and a sunny position.
Tulipa saxitalis is one of the few stoloniferous Tulips (bulbs form on underground roots, it is important to note they multiply at a steady rate and not at an invasive speed). It is known variously as Tulipa bakeri ‘Lilac Wonder’ or Tulipa saxitalis Bakeri Group ‘Lilac Wonder’.
Species Tulips have a more relaxed or whimsical feel than the common hybridized varieties. Species Tulips are ideal for rock gardens, lawn plantings, pots or towards the front of a border.
If planted in a well drained soil, in a spot that does not get too hot or wet over summer then the bulbs can be left in the ground for many years.
