Sumo Lilies are the biggest and the best Lilium bulbs on offer. All the hard work has been done for you and these XL bulbs will bring you a big number of blooms from the get go. They are also faster to flower, so you won’t have to wait as long for their beauty. These bulbs are an incredible size 22 plus, this is almost twice the size of everyday lily bulbs.
Why Sumo? Originally produced for the floristry industry, these XL bulbs have grown so big they actually have too many blooms! While this is not so good in bunches, it is fantastic in gardens, allowing you a big number of blooms from the first season.
Oriental Lilies are ostentatious flowers that command attention and are worthy of it. Their highly perfumed, opulent blooms offer wonderful height and plenty of colour. They make it easy to create an indulgent display of colour for summer. They are gorgeous in the garden and perfect for potting and cut flowers too. Their heady fragrance permeates the summer garden with its sophisticated notes and when cut will fill your home with delightful perfume.
As well as adding glamour and fragrance to the garden, Sumo Oriental Lilies are tough, and able to withstand our hot summers. They are best planted in a permanent position, and can be left to naturalise/perennialise. They are great cut flowers too. We recommend planting them in groups of three or more for the best display.
It is a good idea to fertilise your Lilies, they are hungry bulbs and this will help to give you the best blooms. Adding an organic fertiliser when you first see growth, then again as they are fading is ideal. If you are growing your Lilies in pots, fertiliser is even more important and in this case, a slow release pelletised type such as Thrive or a liquid fertiliser is best. Water to establish, and keep moist in active growth for best results.
In warmer climates, it is a good idea to grow your Liliums in part shade or morning sun, so your flowers will last longer.
