Striking foliage with good cold tolerance. The dense, soft green, tight rosettes are almost ghost like in colour. Through winter and if stressed, they get a gorgeous, pink blush.

In ideal conditions offsets will form along the stem and from the base of the plant and will soon fill your pot. The pink flowers have a yellow tip and open on narrow stems to around 25cm winter to spring.

Echeveria elegans holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit so you know it doesn’t take a lot of effort for them to look good. They hail from Mexico and can even take light frost.

SIZE (HxW): 5-15cm x 5-15cm

I SEE THE LIGHT: Bright, indirect light is ideal. In high light the foliage will change. Keep out of the hot afternoon sun lest their leaves be sunburned or roots damaged. They may stretch if they don’t have enough light.

I NEED A DRINK: Low, water well, then allow the soil to almost dry out before watering again. Keeping them on the drier side will result in better colour. If they are bone dry the roots will wither and the foliage may brown and fall – these are cries of help.

I WILL SURVIVE: These plants are so easy, they pretty much look after themselves. In pots ensure you choose a cactus/succulent potting mix for best results as it offers the sharp drainage they need. Choose a pot with drainage holes to ensure they don’t end up sitting in water.

Use a diluted, liquid fertiliser in spring to keep them happy and healthy. They aren’t heavy feeders so will forgive you if you forget.
