The narrow foliage grows for form a dense, rounded clump. It creates the most perfect shape without you having to lift a finger! It is nice and compact and provides long seasonal interest. The flowers open freely and last an age. The fine, silver green leaves have a touch of fawn and gracefully bow to touch the ground. The bronzed pink panicles open from late summer to autumn, aging to silver through the winter and providing food for the birds.
As a more petite form it is useful in beds, borders, containers, screening, cottage, as a specimen and more. Miscanthus tolerate a huge variety of soils, are tough, long lived and low maintenance. They bring both softness and movement to the landscape.
The name, Yakushima is from the Japanese Island where the original seeds were collected. Oddly they are commonly known as Chinese Silver Grass.
Miscanthus ‘Yakushima Dwarf’ can be left to stand over winter where it remains decorative, an early spring prune will best show off the new foliage.

Miscanthus ‘Yakushima Dwarf’ is a clump forming herbaceous grass that is easy to grow. Plant into any well drained soil in a sunny position, water to establish for around 4-6 weeks, then you only need to worry only if rainfall is low as they are dry tolerant once established. They are happy in moderately fertile to humus rich soils, but woody root systems should be avoided though they are more shade tolerant than their larger cousins.
