The most amazingly blue flowers over wonderfully compact, lush growth. Planted beside a low growing, bright green foliage plant such as Heuchera/Euphorbia, or in front of a radiant, warm toned Geum, or even a silver wormwood, they are swoon worthy. Who am I kidding? They are stand alone swoon material.
A true champion with an abundance of sky blue flowers through spring and summer, the floral racemes grow to an impressive 10cm, with relatively large blooms to just over 1cm across.
Veronica ‘Crater Lake Blue' is an ideal small gardens, cottage settings, garden edging or rock garden and holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit so you know it is also tough and easy to grow.
The mid green, serrated foliage grows along the stems of Veronica ‘Crater Lake Blue’ giving the plant a nice fullness. You can enjoy more and more flowers as the plants establish.
Grow in moderately fertile to humus rich, moist, well drained soil. Plant in full sun to semi shade. Water to establish, this takes 4-6 weeks of regular watering, they are dry tolerant once established. Cut back in late winter or early spring to allow the new growth to shine. Pretty well pest and disease free, even rabbits don’t bother them.
Veronica plants are commonly known as Saw Leaved Speedwell or Austrian Speedwell. It is also known as V. latifolia and V. teucrium ‘Crater Lake’.
