A heritage variety with great flavour. Fruiting late in the season, with fruit on first year canes (Primocane). Rounded, deep red berries delicious for picking. It has been in cultivation since 1860 so stood the test of time. Main fruits from February to the end of April.

This variety has been carried by Clive Stone’s family for generations. Author of The Australian Berry Book, it is one of the original Primocane varieties and it is still growing strong.

New canes emerge late August and are quick to shoot, stretching to around 65cm by October. You should cut them at that time to encourage branching – more fruiting, lateral stems, you can begin tying the branches to the trellis from October on. (If you miss the window they will still fruit and earlier but be less prolific). In June/July cut the stems back to 4cm, and begin the process again.
They should be fully established in around three years.

The taste of Raspberries picked fresh from the bush is amazing. If you have only eaten the berries from supermarkets, you are sure to be astounded. This Raspberry produces medium, sweet fruit in summer, with a second, smaller crop in autumn. The berries have a rich, full flavour.

Raspberries grow well in cool climates and are pretty easy care and the plants produce reliably for many years.

Plant Raspberries in full sun. A humus rich, well drained soil is ideal. Plant the cane quite shallow, around 10cm deep, you can plant up to three in the same hole so they can be trained from a central point. Water in and keep moist when in flower and fruit. Add some mulch to help with water retention and weed reduction.

Trellising with posts 5m apart, with the first wire 140cm from from the ground. Loosely hang the canes on the wire as they grow. Ensure the plants are kept moist January to March while they are fruiting.
