Part of the Decadence Deluxe range, it is revolutionary in its breeding for the show stopping bicolour display. The Lupin like flowers open in pastel yellow shades and gracefully age to purple and pink shades. With both colours showing in tandem it is a sight to behold. What is more they unfurl on almost black stems with matching buds and the seed heads remain decorative up to frost and are suitable for drying.
This large, handsome shrub that is dry and salt tolerant. It is low maintenance and enduring. Try it as part of a border or as a specimen. The alternate, fully divided, small, blue-green leaves grow all along the stems creating a lush, full shrub. Stand alone its structure and leaves make it garden worthy.
A magnet for beneficial pollinators and birds. The flowers even last well in a vase. Or allow them to remain so you can enjoy the ornamental seed heads that follow.
Plant Baptisia ‘Pink Lemonade’ in full sun – they can take a little shade but in too much they can produce weak growth that needs staking and produce less flowers, so it is worth keeping them happy. Happy in moderately fertile to humus rich soils,t hey are not too fussy as long as they have good drainage. Water to establish (this takes around 4-6 weeks of regular watering), then you only need worry if rainfall is low, dry tolerant once established. It has a deep taproot so is able to survive tough conditions. Depending on conditions it can take a season or two to get off and running but once it is you won’t look back. Their longevity in the garden is to be admired. As a herbaceous perennial it will die back for a month or so over winter depending on conditions but are back with vigour in spring. Generally pest and disease free, they are wonderfully easy care.
