Tuberoses are perfumed, pretty plants perfect for a hot garden spot. The impressive flower stems stretch 60-80cm tall.
Tuberose flowers have a strong and alluring fragrance that blends jasmine, gardenia and honey which is strongest in the evening. They are also excellent for picking, so you can bring the fragrance indoors.
The bright green, upright, grass like leaves of Tuberose are clustered at the base of the plant, with smaller leaves forming along the stem.
Plant into a well drained soil in a full sun location, they love organic matter such as compost. In cool climates they need to be protected from the cold, so are best grown in a garden hot spot, and they will require a long season to flower at their best. They can also be grown in pots – don’t forget they need a bit of food and water. In warm climates they are more at home and can be left to their own devices and will multiply at a good rate. It is a good idea to protect them from strong winds.
Tuberoses make good companions for Agapanthus and Crocosmias.
