Tricyrtis are a woodland plants that require a humus rich, moist but well drained soil in semi shade to filtered light. Water to establish and keep moist during active growth – they don’t like to dry out. Remove spent flowers to encourage more blooms.
Whilst Toad Lilies or Tricyrtis sp. look like Orchids, they are actually in the Lily family. A common name for them is Ground Orchid. Also known as Creeping Toad Lily, a name it gets its name as it is a rhizomatous perennial that spreads or 'creeps' with underground stolons. It does this at a moderate pace and is not invasive. It will slowly form a healthy clump. It is variably suggested they are commonly known as Toad Lilies because they like to grow where Toads live; or because they are spotted like toads; or because of their lumpy nectaries.
