Persicaria 'Golden Arrow'
The gorgeous, golden to chartreuse, heart shaped foliage is wonderfully lush and eye-catching. This ’set and forget’ plant will reward you for many years to come.
Persicaria ‘Golden Arrow’ looks fabulous as a ground cover, in rock gardens, along the garden edges or in containers.
Summer to autumn, spires of raspberry pink blooms open freely over the foliage and last well. Each leaf grows up to 25cm long, gradually elongating with maturity.
An excellent plant choice for contrast that can take full sun in Cool to Temperate climates to part shade in Mediterranean ones – you want at least six hours but they are best protected from the blazing afternoon sun, unless you are prepared to water. This is not so bad because the bright foliage really lights up in part shade. It even grows well in containers.
Plant in moderately fertile to humus rich soil. Suitable for boggy soils. Water to establish, it takes plants 4-6 weeks of regular watering for their roots to penetrate and gain access to the surrounding soil, then only if rainfall is low. They are dry tolerant once settled in. It will spread gradually, not at any great pace, through underground rhizomes. In cold climates, Persicaria ‘Golden Arrow’ goes dormant with the frosts and rises again in spring.
Syn. Bistorta amplexicaulis, common names include Knotweed, Mountain Fleece, Fleece Flower and Bistort.
