Ajuga ‘Black Scallop’ 'Burgundy Glow'
- Botanical
- Ajuga reptans
- Plant Type
- Evergreen perennial
- Size (HxW)
- 7-20cm x 20-50cm
- Depth & Spacing
- Plant at the same level as in the pot with roots spread evenly below soil surface. Space 20-50cm apart, closer for a more immediate effect. They spread gradually and are not bullies.
- Soil
- Moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil, they aren’t fussy as long as they aren’t sitting in water. Potting mix is perfectly drained, so it’s hard to over water in a pot with good drainage holes.
- Aspect
- Part sun to filtered light. More water will be required to establish in a full sun position.
- Climate
- Cool to Mediterranean
- Frost
- Hardy
- Water
- Water to establish (around 4-6 weeks of regular watering), then only if rain is low, they don’t like to dry out too much.
- Fertiliser
- In pots apply a well balanced fertiliser early spring. In poor soils a light application in spring is all they will need. In good soils you shouldn't need to worry.
- Flowering Time
- Spring to Summer
- After flower care
- Cut off spent flowers to encourage more blooms.
- Notes
- Divide as required at anytime of the year, they grow on runners and can be transplanted easily. Leaf rot may occur in overly moist conditions, remove affected foliage allow to dry out and the plant should recover. Protect from slugs and snails.
