- Water to establish (it will take around four weeks for the roots to penetrate the surrounding soil) and keep moist during active growth. They are endemic to moist meadows and the sides of streams so they like their water.
- Fertiliser
- An all purpose fertiliser in summer when they emerge is ideal. Adding some mulch in autumn will help the soil stay lovely and compost rich.

- It is a biennial, flowering every second year, then dying back, leaving seed to sow, or naturalise – seeds must be sown fresh and will germinate over the cool days of autumn. Removing the flower heads before they set seed will help the plant stay perennial, but this may only last two to three years. Sow seed in a bright position (under just a little soil as they need light to germinate) and transplant while small, being careful of the roots. Or allow it to fall naturally in situ. Keep an eye out for slugs and snails and aphids. The sap contains furocoumarins which may cause irritation to sensitive skin and will increase sun sensitivity, we recommend wearing gloves when pruning. Flowers last in a vase.
