Botanical Name: Argyranthemum frutescens
Family: Asteraceae/Compositae
Plant Type: Evergreen perennial
Size (HxW): 25-60cm x 20-60cm (smaller in a pot, a little bigger in the garden).
Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same level as in the pot with roots spread evenly below soil surface. See plant tag for spacing.
Soil: Moderately fertile to humus rich, moist, well drained soil. Roots tend to rot in boggy soils.
Aspect: Full sun to semi shade
Climate: Cool to Sub Tropical
Frost: Half hardy, protect young plants and treat as annuals if you live in a hard frost area.
Water: Water to establish then only if rainfall is low.
Fertiliser: Apply a well balanced fertiliser early spring.
Flowering Time: Spring to winter. In cool climates they usually stop blooming at frost. In warmer zones they will flower almost year round. If in pots protect from excessive winter wet to keep them blooming.
After Flower Care: Cut off spent flowers and remove dead and dying foliage to tidy and encourage more blooms. If they become too large, cut back to the wood in spring and they will soon re-shoot.
Notes: In frost prone areas wait until threat of frost has passed before planting in the garden. Pinch out new growth to encourage a more compact, well branched plant. Dead head regularly to promote more blooms. In very hot weather, flowering may wane unless you keep the water up to them. You can propagate by cuttings. Plants are giving but short lived and should be replaced every few years to maintain vigour. You can take cuttings.
