- Sonatini: 20-30cm x 15cm. Standard & Butterfly: 30-70cm x 20-30cm.
- Depth & Spacing
- Plant with the neck of the bulb above the surface of the soil. Space the bulbs 10-30cm apart. Pots 15-20cm across and the same deep. In larger containers you can plant a few. Sonatini: a pot as small as 10cm will do – these guys were bred for potting.

- Moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. In pots use a good quality potting mix.

- Sonatini: Hardy to -15C. Standard/Double: Sensitive, in cool climates grow in pots or lift once the foliage dies back in autumn.
- Water
- Water to establish, then keep moist during active growth, keep relatively dry during dormancy. They don’t need a lot of water and can rot if left to sit in boggy soil.
- Fertiliser
- These bulbs are medium to heavy feeders, for best results apply a complete fertiliser late winter and spring. Fertilising is more important if you keep your bulbs in pots (as is watering) as they have limited access to nutrients. Feed as they emerge then when they are in bloom, just follow the directions on the pack.

- Remove any spent flowers to tidy and encourage more blooms – cut just above the bulb. After the blooming finishes, it is best to fertilise and keep watering the foliage – this is when the plant is forming next season’s growth.
- Notes
- Suitable for pots, in pots turn regularly for straight stems. In cool climates, during dormancy, the pot can be tidied away in a dry spot. In the garden just leave the foliage to die back naturally before lifting to avoid frosts (not required for Sonatini forms).
