Agastache 'Blue Boa'

Agastache ‘Blue Boa’ is a sensational garden plant. For around six months, from late spring to frost, you can enjoy the bright, enduring show of this easy bloomer, much loved by gardeners and beneficial pollinators the world over.

For us it blooms from around November to May. The big, dense flower heads are different from your average Agastache and are around 12cm long. Their brilliant, violet blue shades really glow in the sun’s light.

Agastache ‘Blue Boa’ has big, vibrant green, fragrant leaves and a nice, upright habit. The foliage can be wonderful planted along paths, where you can brush up against it, or you could pick a sprig or two to bring indoors and enjoy in a vase. The fragrance is reminiscent of citrus and liquorice. Agastache flowers and leaves are edible and can be used in salads or teas.

Since its release, Agastache ‘Blue Boa’ has won numerous awards in the U.S. perennial trials.

Standing up to heat and tolerant of poor soils, so long as they are well drained, Agastache are ideal for providing long lasting colour as a dry garden plant. Agastache plants prefer a full sun to light shade position, they need water to establish, then you only need to worry if rainfall is low. Rabbits rarely show an interest and they aren’t troubled by disease.

We recommend dead heading your Agastache flowers regularly during the season to encourage more blooms OR a mid season cut back (don’t forget to water and fertilise after) for a rebloom into autumn. It is a good idea to cut your plants back to the ground in late winter or early spring to maintain a healthy bush and allow the new growth to shine.

Agastache is also known as Hummingbird Mint or Anise Hyssop, they are native to the south western U.S.A and Mexico.
