Dianthus 'Angel of Desire'

They were developed in New Zealand by Dr Keith Hammet and are a revolution in the world of the Old Fashioned Pinks. The fragrance is rich and sweet with notes of cloves and spice. They can flower almost year round. In cold climates they will slow right down over the cool months and you will have a tidy clump of narrow, soft foliage.

Dianthus grow best in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. They thrive in full sun, though, in warmer climates it is a good idea to protect them from the hot afternoon rays.

Water in well, then once established they become dry tolerant. Amenable across a huge temperature range, from -20 to the high 30’s. Don’t allow them to be too wet over winter.

The regular cutting of flowers promotes healthy growth and encourage more booms. You should add some fertiliser during the flowering season for best blooms.

The botanical name Dianthus is from the Greek; Dios for god and anthos for flower: God’s Flower.
