Elk Horns 'Medusa'

Serrated, olive green leaves with a strong mahogany blush and border. The leaves radiate from a central point with a barbed and jagged fangs lining their edge. New branches will form from the centre of the plant as it matures.
Kalanchoe are a type of succulent, and so are easy to care for. In pots they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use (shade in summer outdoors). In the garden they need a frost free area with sharply drained soil and look terrific in a rockeries or small beds. Soft white flowers may grow spring/summer and they last well.
Size: 20-60cm x 20-60cm. The bigger the pot the bigger the plant ... but don’t get the horse before the cart, pot your plant on gradually so it doesn’t get lost.
See the light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. In high light the foliage will change. Keep out of the hot afternoon sun lest their leaves be sunburned or roots damaged. You will get the best foliage colour in bright light.
Water needs: Low, water well, then allow the soil to almost dry out before watering again – you are more likely to kill it with kindness than neglect. If they are bone dry the roots will wither and the foliage may brown and fall – these are cries of help.
I will survive: These plants are so easy, they pretty much look after themselves. In pots ensure you choose a cactus/succulent potting mix for best results as it offers the sharp drainage they need. Choose a pot with drainage holes to ensure they don’t end up sitting in water.
Use a diluted, liquid fertiliser in spring to keep them happy and healthy. They aren’t heavy feeders so will forgive you if you forget. Remove spent flowers to tidy. The plants will produce offsets, which if potted on will be great gift ideas. Wipe the glossy foliage regularly to keep it free of dust.
