Foxglove Yellow Foxglove
A reblooming perennial Foxglove that you can enjoy year after year. Abundant, sulphur yellow flower bells cluster on the towering stems spring/summer, and if you prune them back they return for a summer/autumn show. Inside they are patterned with coffee coloured markings. Below is a lush rosette of mid green foliage to around 40cm, this foliage remains year round. The blooms are great for cutting, and doing so will encourage more stems.
Digitalis grandiflora (syn. D. ambigua), or Yellow Foxglove holds the prestigious RHS award of garden merit, so you know it is a strong, reliable garden performer. They will last in the garden for up to five years, which is amazing for a Foxglove, and at the same time it can set seeds for future generations.
This inspiring, showy plant is a striking addition to any garden and adds a nice element of vertical colour. Foxgloves, or digitalis look best grouped toward the middle, or back of a bed, where their tall blossoms will shine. Bees and other beneficial pollinators love these blooms.
Foxglove blooms start to open at the bottom of the stalks and gradually move upwards, providing weeks of fantastic colour.
Plant Foxgloves into well drained soil, water in and keep moist in active growth. This short lived perennial sets viable seed which can be left to naturalise, or collected for sowing. They will flower from the seed in their second year.
The individual flowers are about the size and shape of a thimble. Fairies are said to have sewn gloves for foxes from their petals.
