Giant Seaholly
Glorious umbels of red-purple flowers rise up over a big fountain of strappy foliage. As the 1cm flowers age they turn deep brown and remain decorative into winter.
Giant Sea Holly will cause a stir wherever it is grown. It has a great presence in the garden with fabulous textural elements. The leaves have a soft, spiky edge and grow 1-2m, forming a handsome rosette. It holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit so you know it is nice and reliable as well as appealing.
As they establish you will get more and more flowers. If you dead head the spent flowers you will increase bloom time. Great in cottage gardens, coastal gardens, dry gardens …
Plant Giant Sea Holly in a sunny spot to get the best colouring. Sea Holly grows best in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Though in saying this, they are quite adaptable as they are endemic to poor, dry and rocky soils. Good drainage is the most important element and they will thrive in hot, dry sites once established.
Giant Sea Holly is a member of the parsley family, Apiaceae.
