Little Pickles Ruby Necklace

Trailing purple stems of plump, pickle shaped leaves. In the right conditions the leaves blush ruby red. A beauty in pots or hanging baskets where the stems spill and thrill from the edges.

In autumn or spring lovely little yellow daisies grow at the end of the bright stems adding spunky little pops of colour.

Little Pickles pretty well thrives on neglect so is a great option for forgetful gardeners.

Size: 5-10cm x 20-50cm.

See the light: You will get the best ruby/purple foliage colour in bright light. Bright, indirect light is ideal. Keep out of the hot afternoon sun lest their leaves be sunburned or roots damaged. In summer they may need to be moved to a more sheltered spot as they go into dormancy.

Water needs: Low, water well, then allow the soil to almost dry out before watering again – you are more likely to kill it with kindness than neglect. If they are bone dry the roots will wither and the foliage may brown and fall – these are cries of help.

I will survive: These plants are so easy, they pretty much look after themselves. In pots ensure you choose a cactus/succulent potting mix for best results as it offers the sharp drainage they need. Choose a pot with drainage holes to ensure they don’t end up sitting in water.

Use a diluted, liquid fertiliser in spring to keep them happy and healthy. They aren’t heavy feeders so will forgive you if you forget and if you overfeed you may lose the red blush and the foliage may become misshapen. But, lets face it even if the foliage is green, the stems remain colourful and it remains a handsome plant. Remove spent flowers to tidy. You can propagate from cuttings, allow them to callous first. Trim to size as desired.
