Native Violet Native Violet
A gorgeous ground cover for shade with lasting, bicoloured blooms. This Violet is so easy growing you could even use it as a lawn in shaded areas. Ideal under trees, in shaded rockeries, containers, as edging, between pavers, over rock walls ... there are so many great ways to use this fabulous plant, you can even eat the flowers!
The mid green, rounded leaves have a handsome gloss and grow low to the ground, making a great weed suppressant. The white and mauve flowers last well and open freely through spring to winter.
Plant in moderately fertile to humus rich, moist, well drained soil. They are suitable for growing in containers and hanging baskets. They can spread gradually through underground runners. Add a little fertiliser in spring if you are growing in poor soils, this will increase flowering. Best kept moist, can die back in dry weather, but will likely return when watered. Foliage will still grow but unlikely to flower well in heavy shade. Will tolerate light frost once established.
