Origanum 'Bellissimo'
The plum purple, hop like flowers open from summer to autumn and deepen with maturity. This aromatic, ornamental Oregano has a weeping habit with great applications for edging, in pots, above retaining walls, in rockeries, on embankments, as a ground cover or as a spiller in a container or hanging basket.
Oregano ‘Bellisimo’ is a sensational, long flowering, low maintenance choice for hot and dry conditions. It is almost adored as much by friendly pollinators as by gardeners.
Plant into moderately fertile to humus rich well drained soil. Water to establish, it takes plants roughly four to six weeks for their roots to penetrate the surrounding soil and gain access to its moisture and nutrients, so they will require extra care initially. Once established they are impressively dry tolerant. Frost tolerant. Handles lots of summer rain with good drainage.
Prune Oregano ‘Bellisimo’ hard late winter or early spring to make way for the new growth. Add a light application of a general purpose fertiliser at this time and water in well. The leaves are edible but not flavourful or even palatable like the herb species.
