Persicaria 'Dimity'
Suppress the weeds with this great, evergreen ground cover for sun or shade.
This plant is really easy to grow and has oodles of things going for it.
Soft pink flower panicles that age to deep red then russet tones. On red stems (15-20cm), the blooms are really long lasting, opening from midsummer right into autumn covering around 5-8cm of the stem. Persicaria ‘Dimity’ flower heads can even be left stand into winter.
The foliage will gradually form a nice, dense mat. The leaves are dark green and between 5 and 15cm long. They turn a lovely bronze red in autumn. While other members of this species have been known as weedy, this variety is not invasive.
Plant in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Persicaria ‘Dimity’ looks fabulous as a ground cover, in rock gardens, along the garden edges or in containers. Plant in a full sun to part shade position. Water to establish the only if rainfall is low. Dry tolerant once it settles in.
Persicaria affinis was previously known as Polygonum affine. While this is a bred variety, the species is endemic to the Himalayas. It is commonly known as Fleece flower or Knotweed.
