Pulmonaria 'Blake's Silver'
A low growing, clumping plants with soft green leaves almost eclipsed by silver variegation. Purple and pink, outward facing blooms float above the fancy foliage for weeks on end.
The handsome, narrow leaves have silver mottling and are a feature in themselves. It has good shade tolerance, though with additional moisture will tolerate sun.
Pulmonaria ‘Blake’s Silver’ is a good, low growing border pant or ground cover. It is lovely in combination with Epimediums or Winter Roses in those shady spots. The more time the plants have had to establish, the earlier the flowers will open and the longer they will last.
Pulmonaria ‘Blake’s Silver’ grows best in filtered light or morning sun. The foliage will gradually form a nice, thick mat that no weed would dare grow through. They tend to burn when planted in the hot afternoon sun.
Pulmonaria is a woodland plant that appreciates humus rich, moist, well drained soil. In mild climates Pulmonaria ‘Blake’s Silver’ will remain evergreen. In very cold climates, the foliage may go brown and black as winter frosts set in, but this can be easily removed to keep the plant tidy come springtime it takes off.
Pulmonaria are commonly known by many names, including Lungwort, Joseph and Mary, Soldiers and Sailors and Jerusalem Cowslip. The flowers open purple and mature to pink so you have a nice two tone effect.
