Russian Sage 'Longin'

An extraordinary choice with upright silver stems bearing abundant, blue flowers. This great beauty is certainly garden worthy, the flowers are resplendent for months on end, they stand tall without any help and get better each year. It is one of those plants where you always wish you had planted more!

Perovskia ‘Longin’ is a sub shrub* that is low maintenance with an impressive show. It actually thrives in poor soils and hot, dry conditions. It can be well utilised in borders, with grasses, dry beds, massed plantings. They look sensational grouped together.

From a distance, Russian Sage ‘Longin’ looks like a huge lavender. The purple flowers open all along the silver stems, so they appear like a cloud, the effect is quite memorable. I don’t think our image portrays this, so I encourage you to see more of this great plant through the magic of Google, or by simply growing it in your own garden.

It has recently been reclassified as Salvia yangii.

A nice choice to use in combination with spring bulbs as it will hide the fading foliage and remain into autumn. The foliage is silver green with serrated edges and is aromatic, smelling similar to Salvias when crushed.

Grow Perovskia ‘Longin’ in any well drained soil, in full sun. It is will tolerate dry and coastal conditions.

Perovskia atriplicifolia ‘Longin’ will benefit from a hard cut back early spring to maintain a neat appearance. Fertilise after pruning. Also known as Russian Sage, it is a member of the Mint family.
